Nitro Dave and the Police

Postby SVO » Thu Aug 16, 2007 7:40 am

Some of you know Nitro Dave from Waco that owns a NO2 outfit, well several years back he and his wife had a run-in with the authorities.

I can remember walking into his performance shop and watching this video in his customer waiting area, here is his words on the situation, then the video:

My police chase video.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys I thought this might give you a good laugh. I would like to say that I do not support or advise running from the cops. Innocent people including yourself could be killed or hurt. This video is from when I was 21 years old. It is not the smartest thing I ever did but now that I am a little older I can look back and laugh at it. I would NEVER do it again but I thought I would share.

Here is a brief run through.
I went to High School in Riesel TX. I always had a fast loud car and ran around with the crew known for being a little rowdy. The local police chief and I always butted heads and he was well known for being crooked. We all knew it was best to just avoid coming into town if possible. To this date he has been investigated for many shady ordeals and has made the news several of times.

Anyways moving forward. I had been out of school for years and had never had a reason to return back to town. One weekend a buddy of mine called and said he was in town at his grandmothers to come buy and visit him. My truck had the motor out of it and I messed Courtnay’s car up so all I had was the camaro which was not street legal and I should have never pulled it on the road. I decided since we were out in the country I would just take it. We went and visited my friend and played cards with him and his grandmother. After leaving his house I pulled out on mainstreet and came to the stop sign at the Riesel square. Back in the day there was nothing there but empty parking lots and old ran down buildings. Sitting at the stop sign my car was loping pretty hard and the dumped exhaust was ofcourse load enough to attract the attention of the local cop. Being so late I knew that if it was Krumnow ( the cop I always had issues with) I was in deep trouble with just him and I on the side of the road at 2am. ( It turned out being officer Tull which was let go from the Riesel police department for other reasons at a later date). Anyways, so after making the block trying to decide what to do I decided to make a go for it. You will here him in this video claiming I was checking out houses for burglary. This was his reason for harassing me to start with. However when our court date came he will say I had no front license plate and that was the reason for harassing me.

Watching this Video you will see that after flooring it there LT1 caprice was no match for my 79 camaro with a small block. You will notice after I completely walked away from him I shut it down to take a left on a side road. I ended up deciding not to take that road due to the fact that the road had a lot of turns and Courtnay was in the car with me. I knew at that point what path I wanted to take so I made sure he followed me down to the lake where there was a safe strait way for me to leave him behind. You will see me sit at the corners waiting for him to catch up and making sure he stayed behind me until the end. I never once drove erratic or took daring chances.

I did get away. However 3 days later I came home and the entire street was cop cars and 1 tow truck. I knew I was in trouble. Now here is the kicker. The car was never put in my name and I did not have a title for it. It was going to be a track car only. They had a warrant for the car and not me. I could have walked away from it scot free and just gave up my car. I hired a lawyer named Dick Clark and he told me to let the car go. I had to much money in the car and I had never been in trouble before so I told Dick to make a deal for me. The deal would consist of my car back with a copy of this video tape and only judicated probation with no jail time I would in exchange give a written confession. They took the deal.
When I went to court the judge asked me why I ran. I told him that everyone knew that the cops in this town were crooked and my odds were better facing them in a court room where there were witnesses than on the side of the road at 2am with just them and us. The judge told me great answere and had a small laugh about the entire situation. I had to be processed through the Highway six jail so they let me sit at the counter while they prepared my paper work. All the jailers that also did not like Krumnow the cop came buy and patted me on the back and told me good job as they laughed and walked off. I never went into a jail cell. I was in and out in 30 minutes. All because everyone in this town knew that all though I had made a poor irresponsible decision to run I was right about the Riesel police dept.

I was lucky in the fact that no one got hurt and this is now one of those things I can look back and laugh about but this video cost me about 2500 buy the time this was all said in done.

Enjoy…

That's one lucky SOB! To only get community service, probation and a fine.

Evading the police, and I counted at least 10 stop signs that were blown through. Not to mention going 120+ at times.

Cool vid though, that's a quick camaro.
