Yes it would require some type of 5.0 to first get motor mount to make it fit in place.
There are a few things you need to look at as well. Headers will be very important. and I will have to say you would not have the room for a 5.8 steering and a few other things would be in the way.

Moving parts are things you really cant cut. You do know I look for the simplest route possible. Chris listens to me and look how well his junk turned out.

So what other parts would I need, and what year explorer motor should I look for?
I was just thinking that when I do my d60 swap, there will be coil-over towers and a cross bar entering into the engine bay, which I may not want to re-do to fit around a different motor. Meaning, maybe I should do this first/concurrently?

Looks like now is the time to get with Kris since he's planning a 5.0 in a first gen.

Well, Advanced Adapters says that the Ford Small Block/700r4 kit won't work with a 351W due to "The torque converter could not be moved forward off the pump the required distance per adapter kit instructions." I don't feel like swapping trannies after what I have in this 700r4, not to mention that I would have to change out the input shaft of the Atlas if I changed transmissions - that or get a different intermediary, such as a Black Box, to mate the Atlas to a different trans. So it looks like you guys are off the hook and I'll just be doing a 5.0L.

Am I gonna be the only one with a stock 4.0?

Well, that is still 4 liters more than Russell's.
Also, I think Kris's main offroad rig is the white one, which isn't getting the 5.0, if I remember correctly. I can't keep up.
Also #2, I may have some Borla Headers for you when I get that far.
