This question is mostly for SVO. Anybody chime in that for sure knows.

From my fun this past weekend, I need to replace:

Passenger side brake hose.
Steering knuckle with bearing and hub and caliper bracket.

Would these parts be the same as as any other 4x4 Explorer 95-01?

If so, do you have that at your salvage yard?

One thing that could be a factor, I'm pretty sure my rotor is bigger, than previous models. So, that might change the brake caliper bracket.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
John

Yeah, I'm a fuckin idiot.

I did some research to find the thread, where I've thought I read about Jefe losing his wheel when not having the outer part of the CV axle bolted in. Both Desertspive and Jefe have done it.

www.explorerforum.com/for...light=half

I even replied to that thread a couple of times.
Short-term memory loss!

Damn John, the steering knuckle is fubared too?

Jeff, how much would a hood for a 91-94 run? Any color would do. I plan on cutting it up and welding in a cowl induction port and some louvers. I need to keep my motor cooler.

Bill says, it would be a good idea to replace it. I think he wants to get one intact with the bearings pressed already.

Yeah, I'm having fun without my truck too!

Last night on the way home from Bill's house after getting a couple of things out of my truck.
We were going along N. on Beltway 8, when there is someone in the 2nd left hand lane had their hazard lights on and were doing about 20mph. Geez. I start to slow down to as everyone else that's paying attention cuz this car is going insanely slow on the Beltway.
Then I hear boom, clank, clank, clank.
Didn't take too long for me to realize the driveshaft on Bill's Blazer has dropped. I still had momentum and pulled over to the left hand shoulder. Another car did the same right behind, me, but I think cuz he wanted to avoid an accident with the situation ahead of us. The wife and I watch in horror as we watch other vehicles coming into the situation at 65mph have to slow down real quick. I can't believe no one hit each other.
Anyway, now I'm thinking, great I have no flashlight or tools to pull the shaft off from the t-case. But, after talking to Bill on the phone, he said it just slides off. I know mine doesn't do that on the Explorer. So, I go underneath and pull of the rear driveshaft and throw it in the back. Get back in, throw it into 4wd High and drive home. Too much fun.

Reminds me of an ole Hee Haw song:

Gloom, despair, and agony on me. (Woooe)
Deep dark depression insessive misery. (Woooe)
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. (Woooe)
Gloom, despair and agony on me.

Cool, haven't really turned up anything here yet.
Let me get back to you before ya bring 'em.

I just got back from trompsing around a junkyard in N. Houston. Boy, that was one smashed up Sport Trac. I passed by it twice without seeing it. But, it was a two wheel drive model and the spindle was definitely different.
Gosh darn, it's hot out! I can't wait to get back to an air conditioned vehicle.

PS - I think my caliper looks fine to me. I just need the bracket to hold it on to the spindle and the rubber brake hose that goes between the caliper and the hard lines on the frame.

The blazer has no AC? You aren't the only one, I've been driving around my dads 80 CJ7, it's got the no window no door method of AC.

Damn, I've been driving around with some nice AC. I have to turn it all the way down to the first notch usually.

John,

On the caliper we have to sell them with the brackets (policy) and as for the brake hoses, they would be cheaper to buy from an auto parts store, as we cut them during dismantling.

SVO, is this caliper assembly off a Sport Trac or Regular Explorer? If there would be a difference between the frontend components of a Sport Trac and Regular 4dr Explorer it would probably be in the rotor/caliper area. When the Sport Trace came out it had bigger rotors than the Regular Explorers.

My current calipers are dual piston, also.

Next question. Are you getting the spindle/hub from another place? Is it brand new or used?

I beg to differ...

I've been looking up parts #'s on
www.fordpartsfast.com. think you need to target 2001 and newer Sport Trac and Sport 4x4's only.
The Sport Trac and Sport parts #'s have been pulling up the same for brake caliper and steering knuckle, but a 2001 Explorer has different Part #'s for those parts.

Brake Caliper:
2001 Sport Trac & Sport 4wd - Part # 1L5Z 2B120 AB
2001 Explorer 4wd - Part # XL2Z 2B120 AB

Steering Knuckle:
2001 Sport Trac & Sport 4wd - Part # 1L5Z 3K185 AA
2001 Explorer 4wd - Part # F87Z 3K185 CA

Will that Steering knuckle include the hub and bearings?

Sorry to be a pain.

Thanks,
John

I'm gonna try to drag the Sport Trac home from my friend Bill's house, hopefully tonight and tear those parts apart and really see if I need another steering knuckle and hub or not.

Well, I stopped by U-haul after work. I bought a hitch.
Their installer wasn't there, so I took it home and put it on during the lightning storm.
I was hoping it would hug the bumper more. I'm gonna double check the part # tomorrow. The instructions was for a Sport Trac.

Anywho, but, then I couldn't find anyone with a tow dolly available for rent.

Michael, is that your home # or mobile?

Woohoo! I found some parts today.
I got the hub/bearing assembly for $50.
Brake caliper with bracket for $35. And a brake hose for $5.
It all came off of a 2001 Explorer Sport 4x4.

I found the salvage yard by doing a search on
www.car-parts.com. I got that link from a post on
www.explorerforum.com. Anyway, I did a search on it for a front axle-shaft in Texas salvage yards. I figured any place that had a front axle-shaft from a late model Explorer would possibly have the other parts I needed. So some Houston places were listed. I picked one off of the Hardy Toll road near Tidwell. I got lucky, his only 4x4 Explorer happened to be a 2001 Sport, which is as close to my truck as you can get.
I'll probably go back and get some spare axle shafts from him later. He had quite a few Explorer 4x2's there. So, if you need a 8.8 axle with disc brakes, he has a few.

So, tomorrow, I'll be heading down to Bill's house to try and get the Sport Trac running again.

Edited by: Aquaman at: 8/16/03 6:11 pm

Jon, I have my stock shafts that could become your spare shafts. Just take some bucks off of whatever the guy at the yard wants and they are yours.
