Recently started the 5.0 swap on my 1992 Ford Explorer Jurassic Edition, after the rebuilt manual transmission failed after a bad syncro locked it in fourth gear.

This swap will retain the existing firewall and dash. The engine bay harness will be removed and will use a custom built 97/92 Engine bay harness. All second gen locations for the air box, battery, overflow, and cruise control will be used. AC and emissions will be retained on this Explorer. Also the Factory column shifter will be used.

The 5.0 is coming from a 97 Explorer and the trans will be a 4r70w from a 97 AWD explorer. The only thing I will use different is a 92 Ford bronco 1356 transfer case elec shift.

Then you have to make it clean for that new motor.



we then moved the battery tray and airbox to the new spots for test fit.





At this point we are at a slight stand still till Russell starts the wiring harness and he has mapped the harness out.

I also need to purchase my motor mounts so I can test fit the motor in the engine bay.

I could have sworn you told me that about the PATS...

Ill put that on my list when I go to Wrench a part next. Just FYI throw the Directions to the James Duff mounts in the Trash the mounts are beautiful but the Directions are garbage.

Good to know. You should write them some new ones and see if you can get your rep status back.

Do they come with grade 8 hardware? Hard to tell from the site's images.

5.0 in but oil pan is keeping it from being dropping down all the way.

Is the firewall clearance for the 4R70W?

are you going to have to go with a dual sump oil pan?

Yes I will be ordering the dual sump pan and the firewall clearance is because the motor sits higher then stock so you need clearance for the trans

You didn't happen to keep the part numbers from everything you ordered. That would be awesome if you did, I was prolly gonna order the v8 conversion kit from james duff.

Yeah I remember what I ordered. the Duff motor mounts are only thing I ordered so far. Its on their New Stuff page.

That's all you ordered and it just drops in!!!! I figured there would be more than that.

Which radiator are you going with?

The kind that coolant runs through to keep the motor cool
