Preview of a Demon4x4 app?

General Discussion, generally referring to vehicles or wheeling.

I lack original thought that the Tapatalk access from this app is not really useful right now. I'd prefer that there just be a button on the bottom that opens Tapatalk directly, and even better still if it could open up the demon forum through Tapatalk. That is something that I'd like to discuss with the Conduit Mobile team that actually laid the framework for this app.

The forums and and Facebook are the only links that get updated regularly anyways, right?
True, though ideally the calendar portion would be quite useful as well. Right now when you open that portion up, you will see some upcoming SHR events, like the Spring Fling.
It's nice that the app also allows someone to 'like' or 'follow' the respective twitter and Facebook feeds directly from the app.

The wheeling locations map of Texas and other states is an excellent idea, and a good way for exposure. But a lot of the harder wheelers already know their local spots already.

And those would be the people that we'd want to tap into once we decide we're ready to 'open it up.' Sure, the hardcore peeps know already, but that still leaves a large group of 'want to someday be hardcore' or even just total newbs that are just getting into it, which just so happens to be the majority.

I'm worried about something mentioned earlier: what is to prevent another developer imaging this exact app and putting their own spin on it, even after going live .

Honestly, the framework for the app that you are looking at know is made by Conduit Mobile. It only took me a couple hours to link up all of Demon's outlets and add some theme coloring, photos, links, the order in which links appear, etc. If we were to actually design our own in a similar fashion, that could potentially exceed this one in practicality and functionality, I'd be all for it. However, as far as I am aware, there isn't anyone on here that is currently a code whiz, so we're talking about significant expense, I would think. I'm not up on my copyright law with regard to the internet as far as protecting our original info and whatnot, so not sure how to answer that part. I guess ideally if the trails wiki was 'open source' so to speak, people would be inclined to add information to it, rather than just outright stealing it for their own.

Also, I might know someone that has an Apple Developer account that could get something at least pushed through to the Apple store, but we'll see on that one.

Its a cut and paste, template app....It's available to whomever wants one, it's how you finish it that makes it yours. Hence the lack of actual features/functions just an organizer of other tools and links... Hence the reason we would want to corner the wiki thing, ENCORPERATING Google map links into the wiki for the 1-2 combo....with the wiki page being modestly branded demon4x4.com The app is a bit moot imo until it can actually do something tho, app market places are great advertising once again, but if your not a demon, and even if you are, the app itself doesn't do much but redirect.... with the wiki if it's set up well, and as the innovators, theft shouldn't be too much of a problem. Might they steel some, if not all, of our leg work, most likely, but if we were here first, and brought a heck of a wiki with us, most ppl would stay true...

Yes, exactly. We can start on the wiki, though it will be some work. I'll start by looking at different options, preferably looking for one that can be installed on our own domain servers.
Starting here: http://www.wikimatrix.org/

I'm thinking it's got to be installable, mobile friendly, no monthly fees, WYSIWYG capabilities, page history, and moderating functions.

Potential candidates:
Bitweaver
MediaWiki
TikiWiki
Drupal Wiki
BlueSpice
Banana Dance

There's a guy that's apparently made a mod for MediaWiki and PHPBB user data integration. What this would mean is that the same database of users would be used for both our forum and for the wiki. This would have the benefit AND/OR hindrance of forcing people to register on the board to contribute content to the wiki. Thoughts on that?

Anyone can contribute at 1st.....A good garden in spring needs lots of manure in winter.....then when we get a respectable database going well switch to members only....i believe all the 'whys' are obvious.....If not I'm tired as all get out.........................................

Well, the reason I was thinking members only, even from the onset, is to be able to establish a baseline and/or a 'prototype' if you will, to help show what it can be and that it is serious and not just a whimsy.
