S197 Roll Cage Mock-Up/Install

One of my customer's brought his vehicle by for a roll cage install, so I thought I would post a few pics incase someone else was wanting to see what it was like.

Hey lookie, a free #2 screwdriver, and a new one too!


now all the comfy stuff is out of the way down to business




At least now from this point I can close up and use the A/C for the final part of the job, damn it's hot!


It's a family thing, you wouldn't understand.














Mock-Up complete, now to Hot Glue this puppy together, and mount to the floor/wheel wells.


For a supposed "bolt-in" kit there where several thing left to be desired, I still had to whip out the 14" chop saw ans cut pieces to the correct length, and used the belt sander on a lot of parts with flash on them.

I will also have to fab a swing out/removable top bar for the doors.

Stay tuned, and we'll finish this up, and move on to some other stuff.

Measure out where all the sleeves are going and mark them:



Time to disassemble the whole cage and clean all the parts to "Hot Glue" them together:





Run pilot holes for the foot pads on the cage:





The side exhaust has to be removed, so as the main hoop can be bolted down:





Then tack the front hoop in place:



Disassemble front hoop and start sticking it together

Not too bad looking for $200. I'd rather it tie into the frame a bit though. Will that fit in my grocery getter?

It's going to be interesting getting all the trim pieces back in. The car looks pretty cool with the cage. After this, then Jeff has to upgrade all the cooling system and relocate the battery to the trunk. Then the Super Snake will be back for some more upgrades.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't HREW, at that price point.

yeah, because dom for 1.75" x .120 is $8.00 a foot.

The roll cage is finished and Jeff will have to post pics of the inside of the car, but he did a tremendous job modifying the trim pieces to keep the interior to look stock but just with an added roll cage.
