Brake Upgrade, 91 Exploder

Still having a brake issue. The brakes are basically completely locked up, even after I've turned the adjusting screw all the way in toward the fire wall. It could be that the master cylinder stroke length is not really compatible, or my booster is bad.

I've temporarily solved this by disconnecting the vacuum hose from the booster, so that now I basically have no powered brakes, but at least I can move it around.

I'm contemplating swapping out the booster for a Super Duty hydro boost setup, since my power steering reservoir has an extra port. Still researching what all I need to do for that.

In the meantime, I may also pick up a 1995 Ford Explorer master cylinder, A1 Cardone part number 13-2695, since the 1995 was already proportioned for front and rear discs.

I've swapped out the front discs for 1-ton F-350 discs. I'm running a dual piston caliper common to the 78-79 model year trucks. In the rear, 1/2 ton Chevy disc brakes replace my old drum brakes.

I went ahead and ordered a 95 Explorer master cylinder (that year's had discs) and a 2000 super duty hydroboost unit. Hopefully I can get that to play nicely together.

I believe that currently, compared to the above diagram, that mine is set up with the hose going from P port on Orbital vale to P port on pump, and so those would be replaced by the hose from P port on orbital valve to High Pressure out on Hydroboost unit, and a new hose going from High pressure in on Hydroboost to P port on the pump. and then a return line added from Hydro boost to the extra feed port on my pump reservoir.

No, mine wasn't previously set up for a hydroboost. It was set up for vacuum assist. I'm adding the hydroboost in to it.

The steering assist the the part labeled Steering Cylinder on the bottom of that image. The Hydrobooster is the unit on the upper left, which I plan to add in in place of the vacuum assist booster.

This is the 1995 Ford Explorer master cylinder and 2000 Ford F-250 hydro booster. If the dodge reservoir that I got fits this Explorer master cylinder, I'll swap it out to get the higher fluid capacity.

That's the part number I got from O'Reilly's. Cardone 13-2695.

The diagram I posted above is how I plan to do it.

Perhaps what you are seeing different is that I didn't get the one with the cruise control option.
