Down side it when people do work as side work or on a budget it tends to take longer. Sucks in a case like this

Wow...still nothing being done after months of sitting. I feel a deja vu moment coming on.

I guess cause he knows it's not my daily driver. Originally I was getting the parts at cost, but since I've provided everything need....so who knows.

So he feels he isn't going to make as much on it. So if he puts it as idle work for his crew. "When your done working on that insurance payed job come work on this kinda thing"

He was formerly providing parts at cost, so - irrelevant. He's making the same amount either way.

Yeah but being less prompt to do a job for the same money doesn't make since. I do first in first out. Just good practice. Only time I put off a job is if I'm doing a job as a favor for some one. Money making jobs move forward. Just see what this guys motive was to put off the repair of the trac.

hmmm...how much extra, since all the front end is off, to have them weld on new inner supports from the parts truck to get rid of all that rust?

not that difficult to swap out the inner structure...might be worth a phone call over there and tell them to go ahead and do it

I'd do it. Its no good to put new body panels on a rusty support.

Nah, no point if it truly doesn't need it. Like I said I told them swap it if it needs it and don't bother if it doesn't.

Gotta say I have always wanted a sport trac. Since my sport is the same body style I can replace a lot of the missing panels. Then a v8 and 4wd. Anyways its a dream, but it depends on how bad the damage is, what you want for it AND if I can sneak another project into my neighborhood. :upto :D

Re: Rock Trac Rebuild #2

Postby TxPlates » Sun Aug 03, 2014 11:02 am

Went up to the shop on Friday and did some poking around. Trac had been moved outside for the day so they could the frame machine. They've got the new fender hung on there, and we went over what he wanted me to have them do as far as trying to make the bottoms look good or just cut and make look like the right side. I opted to just have it cut like the passenger side so the clearance is there, this part doesn't need to look nice just functional. He pointed out the body bushing are trashed (a few are good when John replaced what he could) so he told me they were already going to go ahead and take the ones off the parts Trac and swap those out too. He's got a new guy he's hired that basically does detrim that's going to start tearing the rest of it down on Monday for him. They'll be removing the bed and then stripping it and repair/painting - and going ahead and replacing the left side since it's good on the parts Trac. Said he had to order another bed stand as the two he has are currently being used by other projects as well lol. but then the rest of the doors come off so they can fix the cab corner and cut in rockers. So I told him I wanted it done by the end of August, said he'll give it his best shot. So now my goal is to just go up there every week and poke around to make sure it's being worked on and be a PITA so it gets done. I didn't take any pixs cause it pretty much looks the same as when I last posted just with the new fender hung on it.
