The other reason we went with modifying the stock trans cross-member is we still want a factory appearance, and the cross-member will be reinforced with gussets that will make it just as strong as a factory 4R70W cross-member. Also, with a bit of grinding, we did get the 1356 to fit just barely between the frame rails. it's tight, but it will work. I'm very happy with the driveline angle of the engine, and that fact it's perfectly centered left and right, and it's the lowest and furthest back any 5.0 has ever been put into a first gen factory 4wd. With a tad bit more clearencing of the body, right above the transfer case, I am convinced you can do this without a body or suspension lift.
