And now I can't get it to start. Everything looks normal me, but when you turn the key it just hums (fuel pump engaging, I assume). However, if I bridge the large posts on the solenoid, the starter will crank. If I bridge the large posts on the solenoid with the key while someone turns the key, it will start. Any clues?

You did something with the starter disable stuff on the security system if it has one. You have to find that one wire in the alarm harness and bypass it. TAG had to do that to my red one after the security system freaked out about not having doors.
